Castle rocks!

Castle Banner

Alright, I know I said previously that The Office was the best show ever, which I don’t necessarily believe (Firefly comes to mind!) but for the current lineup I’d have to say ABC’s Castle is my number one fave. The premise is pretty straightforward, a writer is shadowing an NYC homicide unit for book ideas… but Nathan Fillion’s (of the aforementioned Firefly) Rick Castle really makes the show worth watching. His dialogue is witty and the character is generally awesome… the rest of the cast is great too, but I think Fillion really brings a lot of himself to the role.

Best of all, it’s been renewed for next season, w00t! If you haven’t seen it, check it out!

Go Magnum!

Been watching a lot of Magnum PI reruns lately, and Magnum is just as cool as I remember. Of course he gets all the girls (which seemed more attractive back in the 80′s, probably just changes in tastes in women, hairstyles, clothing etc.) Overall it’s one of the few shows from the 80′s that stands the test of time. The actors are great, and you can’t beat that Magnum-Higgins dynamic. I like that unlike today’s heroes, nothing ever comes easy for Magnum – he never has quite enough money so is continuously mooching off of his friends, and often takes a heavy beating before prevailing in the end.

And what can I say, Tom Selleck is just cool.

On a separate note, I made it through Black Monday with 9 claims, not great but not as bad as it could have been… I got 3 more today but was still able to catch up on most of the Monday work. Of course now I have Thursday and Friday off again so I have a lot of work to do on Wednesday before having 2 more days off.

The Office. Best. Show. Ever.

Dunder Mifflin

Ok, that may be overstating it. There are plenty of TV shows I like, I’m pretty sure I’ve felt the same way about Firefly plenty of times, and it might still rank as number one. But if so The Office is a close second – both shows because of the great characters, not for their gimmicks or special effects (which are pretty nonexistent for the Office) But how can you beat Jim’s little tricks against Dwight, the great Jim/Pam relationship, and even Michael’s horrific management style.

There are so many episodes that still make me laugh (or at least smile a little bit) even after seeing them a dozen times. Tonight we re-watched last week’s episode, where Toby returns from Costa Rica and Michael tries to frame him with drugs he bought from the Vance Refrigerations guys, only to find out that the drugs were actually a Caprese Salad. It ended with Jim showing Pam the house he’d bought her… and you can’t help but feel so happy for her when she gets that little happy smile on her face.

Some people just don’t get the show, and I feel a little sorry for them… but I admit the very first time I saw an episode it didn’t grab me, I think it wasn’t until somewhere in the second season that I saw it again and was hooked – and had to go back and rewatch everything that had happened before.

I’m just thankful that my wife and I seem to get hooked on the same shows, she’s as big a fan of The Office, Firefly and tons of other shows as I am. There are very few of each other’s television preferences that we really don’t get.

And at least The Office wasn’t killed in it’s first season like Firefly. Damn you Fox!
